Designer dogs or hybrids are the planned mixed offspring of two very popular dog breeds such as the French poodle and a golden retriever. This mix produces the popular Goldendoodle. Next would be the Labradoodle, a mix between the French poodle and a Labrador retriever. Another very popular designer dog is the Cairnoodle, a mix between a Cairns terrier and a French poodle. All producing a very versatile designer dog.

Some designer dogs got their start in locations like Australia. Where a veterinarian was trying to develop a dog breed for a family member with severe allergies to dogs. The resulting work led the popular Goldendoodle, many of which are hypoallergenic and non-shedding dogs. These designer dogs are very loyal and loving companions. With the best of both breeds, owners enjoy the intelligence and the non-shed hair of the poodle and loving eager to please personality of the golden retriever. The Goldendoodles and Labradoodles are seen in 3 different sizes. The mini, medium and standard.

Lets talk a little about Hybrid vigor. This may be a new tern to a lot of people. But in simple terms it refers to the health of the first generation hybrid designer dog. When breeding two different dog breeds together the offspring they produce demonstrate what is called hybrid vigor. In many cases the designer dog is a stronger and healthier dog than its parents.

Just a few short years ago the phrase Designer Dog was unfamiliar to most people. But today, just go to your local dog part and I’m sure you meet at least one proud designer dog family. I take my dog Max to the dog park every weekend and always meet another Goldendoodle or Labradoodle.
